Can someone practice Hoodoo and still identify as Christian?

Yes, many Hoodoo practitioners historically and in present-day identify as Christian. African American Hoodoo, as a framework of spiritual belief,  does not restrict you from practicing the religion of your choice or none at all.

The follow up question for whatever belief you have is... "Does (fill in the blank religion) approve of me practicing Hoodoo?"... that is a question you have to discern for yourself.

What is African American, or Black Ancestral Veneration? What is an Ancestor?

In its most basic form venerating Ancestors is a tradition, method, and culture of celebrating, sustaining, and seeking guidance from/with our Ancestors to benefit ourselves, our family, and larger community.Ancestors are family members who may be related to you by blood (biologically), or may be "chosen family" such as adopted family, close friends, and general loved ones. You may also consider someone an Ancestor who has had a big influence on you, such as someone who made significant contributions to your community or country, this type of Ancestor is sometimes referred to as a "communal Ancestor".

Does this community explore both Hoodoo and Haitian Vodou? Are Hoodoo & Vodou the same thing?

Yes. Houngan Mekahel practices Haitian Vodou and African American Hoodoo and will be exploring both topics in different ways.

No, Hoodoo & Vodou are not the same though they share some roots. Tune into the podcast to learn more about the similarities and differences between Haitian Vodou & African American Hoodoo.
